For an office label that needs red emphasis as well as black text, start with the media rather than the printer’s headline colour claim. Brother Malaysia names DK-22251 in the QL-800’s red-and-black section.
The QL-800 page lists rolls up to 62 mm wide and printing width up to 58 mm. The separate DK-22251 page describes 62 mm continuous thermal paper for black and red on white and includes QL-800 in its suitable-with list.
A 62 mm roll is not a 62 mm printable design
Keep roll width and printing width as separate fields in the layout brief. The larger number describes the media; the smaller listed limit is the relevant starting boundary for the printed content. A design built to the full roll width needs reconsideration before it is treated as ready artwork.
For a plain office folder, draft the project name in black and a short status word in red. Make both parts meaningful in text: “ARCHIVED” communicates more clearly than a red box without a word. This is an editorial layout suggestion, not a tested visibility result.
Keep the colour choice with the roll code
When requesting supplies, write DK-22251 beside the intended black/red-on-white result. Do not turn the QL-800’s support for DK rolls into an assumption that any DK roll provides the same colour output.
A useful purchase note separates printer model, roll code, media width and intended layout. Quantity can then be discussed for the actual roll being ordered rather than guessed from a generic label photograph.
The printer overview and consumable page show inconsistent units for roll length. This article does not use that field to estimate label yield or silently correct it. No printer, label adhesion or software setup was tested.
For ordinary office organisation, the actionable result is a named colour-capable roll and a layout that distinguishes the listed printing width from the physical roll width. Special-purpose or mandatory labels need a separate, purpose-specific assessment.
