Galaxy SmartTag2 in Malaysia: check the phone requirement for Compass View

If directional finding is the reason for buying a Galaxy SmartTag2, make Compass View the feature being compared. The name on the tag does not by itself establish that the intended phone can display that feature.

Samsung’s Malaysia page for EI-T5600BBEGWW says Compass View requires an ultra-wideband, or UWB, enabled Galaxy smartphone running Android 11 or later. Availability can vary with the device, operating system and country. Samsung also identifies account login and SmartThings Find registration as part of use.

Start with the phone already owned

Write down the complete handset model and current operating system, then check the phone’s own specifications for UWB. “Recent Galaxy phone” is too broad a description for this particular buying requirement. Bluetooth support alone does not answer the UWB question.

For a household comparing tags, identify whose phone will be used to find the owner’s own belongings. Resolve that phone first. A feature confirmed on one family member’s handset should not silently become a claim for every other handset.

Make the account arrangement part of the choice

A tag is only one part of the intended setup. The owner also needs to be comfortable using the documented Samsung account and SmartThings Find route. This is a practical preference to discuss before ordering, alongside the phone requirement.

A short comparison note can have three fields: exact phone, Compass View support and account arrangement. Keep personal account details out of the note if it will be shared with a retailer.

Ask for a relevant demonstration

If a seller demonstrates the feature, use the intended phone configuration where possible and ask which function is being shown. A generic item location screen is not automatically a demonstration of Compass View.

Samsung notes that obstacles can reduce accuracy. This guide does not predict performance in a room, guarantee recovery or recommend tracking people. No handset or tag was paired for the article.

The result is a focused buying question: does the intended phone meet the documented requirement for the feature that matters? Answer that before comparing colours, bundles or quantities of tags.
