An existing BILLY bookcase needs an identity check before a new door order. IKEA Malaysia’s white OXBERG glass door, article 702.756.18, carries a specific exclusion: it does not fit bookcases purchased in spring 2014 or earlier. A width measurement cannot answer that version question.

Keep the two dates separate

If the bookcase was bought second-hand, record when it was originally purchased as a separate field from the date you acquired it. A recent resale does not establish a recent furniture version. Look for an original receipt or order record; if none exists, ask the previous owner rather than assigning an age from a photograph.

Do not dismantle or modify furniture to settle an online shopping question. Preserve any readily accessible product identification and ask IKEA to match it to the exact door article. If the original purchase period cannot be established, keep it as an unresolved compatibility question. A seller’s broad statement that a door is for BILLY should not replace the product-specific exclusion.

Use a four-field fit enquiry

• Existing bookcase: its documented identifier and original purchase period.
• Opening: the bookcase width and the section you want to close.
• Proposed door: OXBERG 702.756.18, white, listed as 40×192 cm.
• Arrangement: ordinary opening or corner arrangement, with the neighbouring furniture identified.

IKEA states one door for a 40 cm BILLY and two for an 80 cm BILLY. It also gives a corner-unit condition: the adjacent shelf must have no doors. Keep those conditions attached to the enquiry instead of reducing the question to a door count. The page separately lists actual door measurements of 39.5×192.4 cm; a nominal size and a measured dimension are different fields.

Decide what remains unanswered

A fit enquiry is complete only when the exact existing bookcase and intended arrangement have been matched to the proposed accessory. If width is known but version is not, record a partial result. Do not invent an adapter, drilling method or modification that would make an excluded bookcase suitable.
