Brother DCP-L2640DW: check mono printing against the documents you need

Malaysian consumer buying guide. Sources checked 22 October 2026.

Brother Malaysia describes the DCP-L2640DW as a compact mono laser multifunction printer with Print, Scan and Copy. The same page labels its print-speed figure as black output. The function list and the printing colour are separate parts of a purchase comparison.

For household documents, start with the required final page. A text worksheet, a copied form and a colour illustration are different tasks even when all begin with the same computer file.

Choose three representative documents

Make a small sample set from the work you actually expect to produce: one mostly text, one with a chart and one whose meaning depends on colour. Beside each file, write what must remain clear on the final page.

A chart that uses red and green without labels raises a different question from a plain text handout. This is an editorial way to define the requirement, not a claim about how the DCP-L2640DW renders a particular file. We have not printed those samples.

Follow each document through the workflow

  • Print: identify the file and the appearance required on paper.
  • Scan: identify the captured file and where it needs to go.
  • Copy: identify the original and the acceptable copied result.

Evidence that a printer scans does not establish a different printing colour. Likewise, a coloured product-page image is not a specification for colour output. Check the exact model’s specification for each stage that matters to you.

Use a demonstration to answer the unresolved question

If a provider can demonstrate the model, ask them to use a representative document and identify the settings. Keep that result tied to the sample rather than treating it as a universal quality score. Application compatibility and the intended connection remain separate checks.

If the household requires colour printing, retain that requirement throughout the comparison. If mono output fits the actual work, continue evaluating other conditions on their own evidence. A count of three document functions should not decide the colour question.

No toner-cost calculation, page-yield test, legibility score or seller endorsement is offered here. Current price, stock, bundle contents and individual software compatibility have not been verified. The useful outcome is a clear document-and-output requirement for the purchase, rather than an unsupported all-purpose recommendation.
