What are Ahrefs and Semrush?
Ahrefs is an all in one most profitable SEO tool that crawls and stores web data. They happened to be the fastest bot that crawls almost 8 billion web pages per day and they are also best in link building, keyword research, link tracker and many more others while Semrush is also a powerful SEO tool that works best for keyword research at its peak.
Ahrefs vs Semrush Keyword Research
Both Ahrefs and Semrush works best in Keyword research. But in data analysis and presentation, Ahrefs crawl and store web data faster than Semrush.
I will take an example of a keyword on my blog.
Ahrefs in Keyword Research
The above screenshot shows that Ahrefs could crawl and index the keyword long ago. Now let check the same keyword with Semrush.
Semrush in Keyword Research
The above screenshot shows the data that Semrush has no single information or data regarding the provided keyword. Whereas, the above keyword is a trending keyword and Google has picked it, including Google search related.
Ahrefs and Semrush in Link Building
In this area, both tools work perfectly. But in speed and accuracy, Ahrefs carries the votes. Am saying this in reference to their speed in crawling inbound and external links on a web page. Let us see some picture screenshots below.
The above screenshot as you can see records or crawled whopping 217 Million Backlinks for Huffingtonpost.com and over 795k Referring domains. Referring domains are referred to the number of sites referring to pages on your website.
Now let us also take a look at how many Backlinks and referring domains Semrush has for huffingtonpost.com.
As you can see, Semrush has only been able to crawl and indexed 46.2 million total backlinks and 346k referring domains which are currently pointing to Huffingtonpost.
Broken Link Checker for Semrush vs Ahrefs
Broken links are dangerous for search engines like Google. If you have bad or death backlinks on your site either outbound or inbound, you have to quickly fix it. The bad news is that this can not be done with physical eyes irrespective of your experience in blogging, web design or SEO especially when you have hundreds of pages linking to others and others linking to you. It’s best advised to initiate the use of SEO tool which makes use of a bot to crawl and present the result to you for fixing.
Let’s see how Ahrefs track Broken Links in real time
In the previous screenshots, it was discovered that Semrush has records 6.1 Million lost backlinks while Ahrefs has over 3 Million lost backlinks.
Now with my research and further analytics to find which one is saying the truth on this report, I found out that Ahrefs has lost links on a separate page and broken links on a separate page while Semrush classifies both in one page.
Ahrefs vs Semrush in Rank Tracker
Rank Tracker in SEO tools helps to keep you updated for your tracked keywords which are usually important to you.
This still has to give seniority to Ahrefs because Ahrefs crawl web pages faster and index metrics and can easily track and give an accurate result on your tracked keywords.
Spying your Competitor’s Keywords with Ahrefs and Semrush
The most powerful part of keyword research (Ahrefs and Semrush) is that you have the power, ability and freedom to spy on anyone, competitor or similar web page to see the keywords they actually rank for and see if you can compete with them or not.
Let’s see how both can help you to spy on your competitor

Ahrefs vs Semrush in finding Low Competitive Keywords to easily rank for on SERPs
Semrush and Ahrefs Help to easily find low competitive Keyword to target. In a normal sense, you should understand that the higher the value of the keyword difficulty, the more difficult the keywords become to rank for on SERPs.
For example, it is easier to rank for keywords with 0-3 keyword difficulty than ranking for keyword difficulty with 5 and above.
Ahrefs gives accurate Keyword Difficulty and gives a clear estimation of how many backlinks you do need to rank top ten on SERPs.
Let’s take a look at Semrush, how they show keyword difficulty, CPC and search volume.
